Learn Conversational Hypnosis – Mirroring And Pacing
So how do you do mirroring and pacing?
This is a covert hypnosis solid technique that you can use anytime and anywhere. This technique is very helpful because it goes under the radar.
But here’s the fact, many people these days know about how to do mirroring and pacing. This technique has been taught by many sales organizations and it has been caught on by the general public.
As a result, if you attempt to do basic mirroring on someone, it may not work so well.
Why is this so?
Here’s an example to illustrate the point. If a person reaches to scratch the back of his head and you also reach to scratch the back of your head to mirror him, he could possibly catch on.
If anyone been to a seminar on mirroring, they are going to know what you are trying to do! They’ll know you are trying to establish a rapport they them.
So many people have been trained to do pacing and mirroring and that has caused it to kind of lost some of its effect.
If you are attempting to do basic mirroring and pacing with someone, realize that the other person maybe as skilled as you are and they may know exactly what you are doing.
So how do we overcome this challenge?
Let’s try a more subtle technique instead. This technique is very powerful because you are establishing rapport but not on the same level as you normally would. This technique is going to take you one step beyond.
Try this…imaging yourself in a bar and you are standing there. One of the fascinating thing about an environment such as this, where there are loud music and lots of people talking, a lot of the words that you would normally use to have control or influence on other will not work because it is so loud they can’t even hear you.
You are focusing on a technique you are trying to use and the other person is not really hearing what you are saying. If you are trying to use covert conversational hypnosis approach, it probably won’t work effectively.
Back to the bar visualization again, imagine you are standing and there is an arm rest or counter top. Rest your arm there. Strategically place your hand there so the other person can see it.
At a certain point, you can pick up some physical movement that is happening within the other person’s body. You can pick up on perhaps his breathing. Perhaps you can see his chest rising up and falling as he breathes.
If you can pick up on that, you can mimic it by moving your hand at the same rate or pace that he is breathing.
For example, when he is breathing in, you raise your hand slightly. And when he exhales, you drop you hand down. Do this as if you are tapping slowly on the counter with your fingers.
It is not as if you are making some sort of conscious movement each time you are mimicking, what you are doing is mimicking a motion he is not consciously aware of…his breathing.
By doing this subtle mimicking, you are establishing sub-consciously rapport with the other person.
What else can you mimic? How about his pulse?
For some people, you can see his pulse on his neck because his heart beats are very powerful, you can see what’s going on his carotid arteries.
If you are fortunate enough to notice this, you can even mimic his pulse with your subtle hand movement again. You can establish rapport at a very deep, subconscious level without the other person being aware of what you are doing.
